Review: Argento's Phantom of the Opera

So, [info]my_daroga finally sat me down and made me watch Dario Argento's Phantom of the Opera, starring Julian Sands and Asia Argento and "based" on the Phantom of the Opera story (yes, the quotes are necessary). And this post is to tell you you must see this film. There are three reasons this movie is awesome:

1. It is so bad.
2. And yet, a few parts are so good.
3. Parts of this film are unique and thinky in spite of itself.

List of the most thrilling aspects in defense of why this movie wins the internets. With PICTURES, y'all. )

Thinky Thots: Wherein I think more about this movie than possibly anyone ever has in the whole wide world. Except for possibly my_daroga. Also, flaunt my true phangurrl colors. They are under my feathers. See? *ruffles* )

Review: Stardust, by Neil Gaiman

I wrote this during my scintillating job at the Pacific Science Center info desk, so if I suddenly start talking about Amazing Liquid Nitrogen And Hey, Let's Freeze A Rubber Glove, that's why.

Thoughts on Stardust, book and movie, and hey, what's the point of it all? Not too many spoilers. )

Phantom of the Opera book review!

Hey, for those of you who don't care, which is most of you, Andrew Lloyd Webber is writing a sequel to Phantom of the Opera. The sequel's apparently going to be based on a book (read: published fanfic) called The Phantom of Manhattan, by Frederick Forsythe.

I have read this book, courtesy of [info]my_daroga, who said it wasn't right to spend money on the thing. I was a trifle worried because even though I wish I hadn't spent money on Kay (author of another published POTO fic), I still like owning it. But I've come to the conclusion [info]my_daroga was right. I don't need to own The Phantom of Manhattan. But in case I ever need to refer back to it, I've made a mini-version.
