Recs

-Gemini, by [info]only_passenger. Very short Buffy/Faith, full of moments with subtle, heavy depths of meaning; vivid, compelling images of Faith; and hotness/introspection/hotness.

-ninebillion is an LJ community set up for us to explore the faiths/religions of characters we love. "Faiths/religions" includes everything you can think of, and some things you can't, from Angel's lapsed Catholicism to Roslin's prayers to the Lords of Kobol to Octavian's Roman sacrifices. Sign up for the fic exchange, where you can write and recieve fic about the faiths of characters you request from multiple fandoms.

-Considering my experience with [info]hd_holidays was the only thing that got me to finish a Harry/Draco fic, I signed up for another fest. They're looking for even more people to join, so if you've ever considered writing Harry, Draco, Snape, or some combination thereof, here you go:

-The Darogas' band, Landlord's Daughter. They sound like awesome does.

Of Great Doctrinal Import, Guys.

Baby, I know you wanna show that thon, tha-thon-thon-thon.

-METATHON: Let's get metaphysical, metaphysical. Are you intimidated by meta? Now you don't have to be, with this easy one-two-three meta-thon(g)! Wear it, and all your fears about getting physical wear away!

I could totally be a scary announcer guy. But anyway, really, [info]seraphcelene is asking us to do something really easy, something we want to do anyway, and something I've heard a lot of you say you want more of. She's asking us to talk about our writing. You can write a DVD commentary, an in depth analysis of control dynamics between your male and female characters throughout your entire body of work, or answer the question, Why Do I Always Write About Cheese? It's a chance to talk about yourself. Indulge yourself. It doesn't have to be difficult or mind-bending to be informative or illuminating to others. Sign up to write about why you write what you do: here.

-MARATHON: It's time for the IWRY Fic Marathon again. For those of you who don't know, it's a ficathon focused on Buffy/Angel. It's into its fourth (fifth?) year, and imo it's one of the things that helps keep Jossverse alive. Even if you don't write B/A, this is an excellent chance to try your hand at it. [info]chrisleeoctaves always makes this event a pleasure in which to participate; for the entire month of November there're new fics by all kinds of writers, one each day. Please consider signing up, before I do something drastic like volunteer to write two which I know I can't do, but am thinking about doing anyway because I'm worried about the lack of participants.

-FICATHON: [info]kangeiko is gauging interest in a faith ficathon, in which participants will write fics celebrating the faiths of different characters. As Kangeiko says, the character you write about doesn't have to have a strong on-screen/page relationship to his/her faith. Rather, you as the author has to determine what that relationship might be, and how it affects the character. Kangeiko uses the example of Firefly--Book is very religious, obviously, but how did Mal become so disillusioned? What is Inara's faith? Does Jayne have one? I think this would be a really awesome ficathon. State your interest here.

-For those keeping up with Another One Like It Tomorrow, posting will resume this weekend. I'm so sorry for the long delay.

-As for where I've been, thanks to all of you who've been concerned. I'm fine, and hopefully will be more active online soon. I owe some of you emails and others of you fb and others of you crazy souped up Phantom of the Opera plotlines, K, I'm looking at you. I miss you guys!

[info]femmenerd yelled at us. At us, guys.

Anywho, she's talking about smut. Yes, textual porn, ladies, the kind that makes you squirm in your chair. And she wants to know which fics go straight to your libido, or someone's libido, because anonymous commenting is on. Not the thinky fics, folks, unless the thinky does it for you too, or there's thinky and something that does it for you. The kind that make you ashamed you kept reading just because they were really hot, the kind that make you want to leave TMI in the comments, the ones that make you want to have babies (except for the whole giving birth thing. And everything after that. And the pregnancy thing). Go leave links here.

In other news, why is it I've never heard amygdala called the lizard brain before? eta: Because it's not, actually, but anyway, what I mean is I've never heard the term "lizard brain". !!! Thank you for the info, [info]marenfic! Do you know, everywhere I go, I feel like I'm constantly surrounded by people who know more than me. Oh wait, I am. But sometimes I think everyone's going to get advance notice for Rapture but me, and everyone'll be talking about it, and I'll be going huh, with the what now, because I'm not even sure what the Rapture's supposed to be anyway.

In other other news, I luff you all and you made me feel better last night and things are looking up up up because my family is full of nutcases.

FICLET: Reprise

GUYS. [info]rahirah wrote B/A. The internets are going to implode. Spuffy fen will disown her. Get me a bowl of ice cream as I watch apocalypse. And post Spuffy smut (she called me out).

Reprise
Spuffy, NC-17, post NFA, snippet
Cut to spare the B/A sensibilities of...okay, maybe 30% of my flist. Also, I think it uh, rhymes. What's up with that? )

Rec

Synth, a comic by [info]astridv and [info]yhlee. Post NFA AtS/Fray cross-over.

If you haven't already seen this, go. You don't have to be familiar with Fray. The plot is quick and clean, but also touches on some of Angel's deepest issues. The artwork is truly amazing, and really made me feel just a bit of Angel's world again.

In other news, [info]seraphcelene did an awesome Cordelia ficlet, and [info]stoney321 did boarding school RPS.

I live a happy life.

Fics I Enjoyed In 2006

At the end of 2005 I decided that for 2006, I was going to put into my memories every fic I *really* enjoyed reading.

I failed miserably.

The times when I remembered to put a fic into memories where haphazard, random, and strange. Half of the fics listed below weren't taken from my handy-dandy memories list; I hunted down because I remembered them. As a result, every single one is from my flist, because with the ones off-list, I couldn't even remember who wrote them, much less where to find them (among fics I remember truly enjoying, but can't remember where to find them: there's a What Spike Did With Angel's Ashes piece, a Brink of Apocalypse Spike/Angel, in which Spike brings help from his poetry slam, and a truly creepy Firefly in which use is made of Inara's needle).

Anyway, this means most of you have probably seen the majority of these fics already, so it might not actually be useful to anyone. If it looks like I favor some authors--some of you are on there five or more times--it's because I totally do, not 'cause I like them as people (though I do) but because I totally pantyfan their writing. But my spotty organization also means that these are by no means the only fics I really enjoyed--it's just what I happened to have when push came to shove. And there are so many fics I plan on reading from 2006 that I haven't gotto yet (haven't done my holiday fb festive thingy--dude, I suck), that I can just *feel* I'm going to love.

If nothing else, it can be a Big Damn Supplemental Feedback List.

In the end, what I want to get across is a big ole THANK YOU. Thank you flist, for writing fic. For keeping at it and keeping me entertained. Thanks for making icons and graphics and vids and meta and creating. Thank you for reading and reviewing and pantyfanning and loving. Thanks to everyone not on my flist for being there and mysterious and wanky and slightly scary and yet attentive when I want to poke around and funny when I want to laugh at you. OMG THANK YOU, everyone. You made last year live-able.

The great Connor // Jackson Browne debate PART DOS

[info]crazydiamondsue has uncovered further evidence in my relentless quest to address this query.

Both Connor and Jacksone Browne are disassociated with humans in designer jeans. I don't even need to pull out the photo evidence of both in emo clothes, because there's VIDEO PROOF.

It's fun. It's got Wesley/Lilah, Connor, the AtS crew being heroes, S4, Angel playing a song on the elevator, the White House, Jackson Browne, and MY NAME AT THE END. *loves. Forever*

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

C. Happy birthday to [info]stultiloquentia! She's an excellent writer and thinker and wit, and she makes me incredibly happy when ever I see her soup can. That was not a dirty innuendo.
I. The IWRY Marathon kicked off today! The story is Letters, by Jo ([info]librarian2003). I haven't read it yet, but I'm really excited because Jo's a fabulous writer. She's one of the first Jossverse fic authors I've ever read! So hop to it, kids!
N. Tomorrow [info]lostakasha posts. She wrote B/A, y'all. I'm aquiver with excitement.
D. Does anybody know what happened to Spy!Daddy? I mean, that show, Justice, that used to come on after Bones?
E. Speaking of Bones, this ep was a little hard to watch for me because sometimes every woman I know seems so intent on changing themselves, especially getting thinner. It makes me sad. Also, I'm doing this writing thing where I have to do body modification research, and it's really icky. Like, some of the photos I looked at, with men and 19" waists. I think that's why I'm nauseous.
R. On the other hand, DB. Fuck, that man's arms. No, seriously. I'd do 'em.
E. S4 of AtS OWNS me. It owns me like an owning thing. And long, woe-is-me, what-am-I-now, on-and-on, in-the-church monologues, which JM and that whole scene just, I'm sorry, utterly lamed up for me, VK and that whole other scene made shiny and new for me.
L. Did you guys know T.J. Thyne (Hodgins from Bones) was on AtS?
L. I hate Angel's hair at the beginning of S5. And his clothes.
A. On Oprah, Denzel Washington talked about the art of a single perfect tear.
! Do you guys think Baltar, Joaquin Phoenix, and VK have an uncanny ability to cry?
