Impending doom of a ficathon due date = spending time with fandom = meme.
I do not think all sides of the equation are balanced!
Meme #1: Quote a bit of my writing at me? Find that one fic or post of minethat you really like, and find a sentence or a paragraph that pressesyour prose-buttons in the right way, and comment here with it? Don'tcare how long or short.

You can still request a fandom.
Turns out I really don't know the popular opinions in most of these. So mostly what I did is wrote negative opinions. So you should beware. I don't think there's any unreasonable bashing in here, just stating of things I don't like, but if negative opinions of stuff you love makes you sad, maybe you should steer clear.
My unpopular opinions! ( Twin Peaks ) ( Anne of Green Gables ) ( BSG ) ( Disney's Gargoyles ) ( Veronica Mars ) ( Heroes ) ( Jane Austen ) ( Torchwood ) ( HP ) ( Buffy and Angel ) ( LOTR ) ( Beauty and the Beast )

Oh! I want to do that unpopular opinions in fandoms meme!
So, you pick a fandom or a couple characters from a fandom, and I will tell you my unpopular opinions about it. If I don't know what's popular or un which is often the case (look at my clothes, why don't you!), I'll give you thoughts I think are probably unpopular. And if you pick a fandom I'm not into or don't know, I'll just tell you shit randomly.
So! Here are some fandoms I know stuff about. Have at it!
24 | Angel | Battlestar Galactica | Beauty and the Beast | Buffy the Vampire Slayer | Doctor Who | Farscape | Feaks and Geeks | Firefly | Gargoyles | Harry Potter | Heroes | Horatio Hornblower | House | Jane Austen books | L.M. Montgomery books | Lord of the Rings | Sound of Music | Phantom of the Opera | Pirates of the Caribbean | RPF/S | Torchwood | Twin Peaks | Veronica Mars | X-men

It that meme thing. You have to say which movies these quotes are from. I didn't do the imdb thing. Or I did but the quotes are not random. They're either lines I remembered, lines that affected me, or lines in scenes that were powerful to me. Also, these might not be my 15 favorite movies, but they're movies that are important to me for one reason or another. Also, some of these might actually be television miniseries quotes. *coughs*

People in fandom who make my day:
chrisleeoctaves, for being kind, for making things happen in fandom, for keeping the B/A love alive, for being graceful, eloquent, and funny, for being a fabulous friend and sending me postcards and tea.
seraphcelene, for your wonderful emails, which I miss, your glorious fb, your thinky thoughts, your enthusiasm, your willingness to blab on about fanfic til five in the morning, for telling me once I never needed to apologize or qualify myself for speaking my mind.
my_daroga, for opening up your home and heart.
a2zmom, for your funny posts, your pragmatic posts, your wise posts, your educational and religious posts, for your thoughts on life and peeks at your family posts, for your shameless posts . . . and for being exactly how you are on all of said posts when I met you in person.
kita0610, for saying what you think, for being strong, for having and open heart, for loving hugely and fighting courageously, for gorgeous writing, for pimping others, for being squeeful and enthusiastic as well as wise and thinky, for being succinct in your lj posts, which neither of us can quite manage in writing. :o)
fodian, for making me dinner, and for introducing me to the wonders of gender ambiguity in males, for being so enthusiastic and thinky at the same time, giving me thoughtful ways to look at things in which I haven't before, for all your emails.
crazydiamondsue, for always making me laugh. There should be more, but you do it every single damn time. And you make me feel all squishy inside.
germaine_pet, for being wise, independent, and strong, for encouraging women around you to be so, for being sensitive, big-hearted, generous, and kind, for wonderful writing, for good downhome squee, for writing twisty incestful threesomes.
imnotacommittee, for putting up with me even though I don't always stay in good contact, for being so easy to talk to and share so many thoughts with, for still sending me things to beta even though I suck, for your Sound of Music love.
femmenerd, for being witty, quick, and making academia interesting, for being enthusiastic and chronically multi-fandom, for always being wonderfully open with your thoughts, ideas, theories, and fannish zippidydooda.
If you're mentioned, you're supposed to do 10 people of your own who make your day.
Also, kids, I did something weird and creepy and stalkery, thought I tried to make it as . . . unweird and uncreepy and unstalkerly as possible. I made a comm to discuss mistful fanfiction, and it's ddg_and_sundry on livejournal. For one thing, I resented making it on lj, because. Well. You know me and lj, no simpatico! But I figure it's a comm and not a user, so I'm not really breaking my stance? Or something. Anyway, there's no getting around it, I am fannish about this woman's stories. I want to write fanfiction about them; I want to write meta; I want to talk to other fans; I want to debate; I want to theorize and predict; I want to go to midnight parties; I want to go to cons.
It seems freakish and wrong to be so obsessed with a few fanfics. I will feel better when she's all published, though how in the world does that make being fannish legit? I make no sense. But anyway, I don't know if anyone on my flist besides Essie is as nuts as me, but there's the comm. It's there.

Not nearly as exciting as other insomnia posts, as I think I might actually go to sleep soon. Though am feeling neurotic enough that I'm thinking about going and counting all my other insomnia posts and numbering each in the title, then editing this so the number is correct.
Yeah.
So, this is kind of cool. You can vote for your top ten "Best Novels" here. Your lists gets sorted into a database and after a certain interval, will go towards generating a list of the "Top Ten Best Novels" chosen by the people, for the people, or what the ef ever.
I did find the experience harrowing and nail-biting as one place said top ten "favorite", but everywhere else said "best". To me these are vastly different! "Favorite" to me means impact it had on me, how much enjoyment I get from reading it, how much I think about it, how it made me feel. "Best" to me means quality of writing, quality and possible positive impact of ideas, and the actual realistic positive social impact. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite novels. It isn't imo one of the best.
(Then of course there's the connotation in such a list of "most classic" or "most well known". Gone With The Wind is a classic, but neither my favorite nor best. Hmm.)
I've read 45, which might not really be a figure to be proud of. Since The DaVinci Code made the list.
( The List of People's Top 100 Novels. Of course, being me, I had to cross of which ones I've read and include commentary. But it's limited! Anyway, bonus, you can meme it. )

There are many reasons I'm glad you were born, seraphcelene. Here are just a few of them.
-Your frankness. Not just that you are but you are frank about asking me to be frank. I love how I always feel like I can trust what you say you feel. -You writing. It is awesome in its imagery and poetry, and deep, thinky thoughts. -The stamps I got at the Aquarium. -The way you get all into stuff and it either makes me feel better about being into the same thing, or gets me into something new. Or something old again! You're just so open and free in your love of things. -And people. -Your emails! -Staying up until what, like, 5 a.m., getting to talk to you in person. -And watching Japanese obstacle course idol or whatever it was the next morning. -Your meta, the way you think about things, and the things you think about--often they're things I've never stopped to consider, and it always opens up new ways of thinking for me. -Your tales of kissing banditry.
I'm so glad I got to meet you. I hope I will again. Have a happy birthday and EAT CAKE. This is not a request.

So, my_daroga finally sat me down and made me watch Dario Argento's Phantom of the Opera, starring Julian Sands and Asia Argento and "based" on the Phantom of the Opera story (yes, the quotes are necessary). And this post is to tell you you must see this film. There are three reasons this movie is awesome:
1. It is so bad. 2. And yet, a few parts are so good. 3. Parts of this film are unique and thinky in spite of itself.
• ( List of the most thrilling aspects in defense of why this movie wins the internets. With PICTURES, y'all. )
• ( Thinky Thots: Wherein I think more about this movie than possibly anyone ever has in the whole wide world. Except for possibly my_daroga. Also, flaunt my true phangurrl colors. They are under my feathers. See? *ruffles* )

-Gemini, by only_passenger. Very short Buffy/Faith, full of moments with subtle, heavy depths of meaning; vivid, compelling images of Faith; and hotness/introspection/hotness.
-ninebillion is an LJ community set up for us to explore the faiths/religions of characters we love. "Faiths/religions" includes everything you can think of, and some things you can't, from Angel's lapsed Catholicism to Roslin's prayers to the Lords of Kobol to Octavian's Roman sacrifices. Sign up for the fic exchange, where you can write and recieve fic about the faiths of characters you request from multiple fandoms.
-Considering my experience with hd_holidays was the only thing that got me to finish a Harry/Draco fic, I signed up for another fest. They're looking for even more people to join, so if you've ever considered writing Harry, Draco, Snape, or some combination thereof, here you go:

So, I wrote Now The Shining Sun Is Up for hd_holidays. It's a Harry/Draco story about dealing with the long-reaching social and political effects of war.
Although it really needs so much more work, I'm kind of happy with the story. It could've been so much better, really shiny, but as it is it got across the gut of what I really wanted to get across, I think. And that was why I entered the ficathon. You know I hate ficathons and only enter them because I love Lynne and Chrislee. But I've been trying to write H/D for a whole year now, and while I have millions of pieces of things on my comp, I've yet to really spit out one whole thing. For this ficathon I started about five different stories, 30,000 wasted words all told. It was in the last two days I wrote this one, and then the mods of the fest were nice enough to let me send in my second draft (which took another week or so to write, on top of moving) to post. The final draft would've been tighter, with excess talk cut out, and a couple vital moments added--but if I'd've had the time, I wouldn't rewrite this fic, just polish it up a bit. In TKPspeak, that means I'm a bit proud of it.
In other news, it was bizarre being a part of a fest with anonymous gifts, much less in a fandom I'd never participated in. Since no one in H/D fandom knows who I am anyway, I thought it wouldn't make much difference if I was anonymous or not, and that the fest would be a good way to get the story out there without having to wave my arms and say, "look at me!" Makes it weird, though, when people think they know who wrote it. Especially if they think it was mistful, which was flattering and also weird and also worrisome (i.e. I'm inspired by her writing! But am I "inspired" too much?). At any rate, it was pleasing and surprising the way people responded. It wasn't a mega hit or anything, but I don't really think the unpolished nature of the fic merits that. But there were people with really thoughtful comments who really appreciated what I tried to do with the story, which warms the cockles of my heart. (Not the mussels of my heart, though. Or even muscles; that's so purely clinical.) Since I've never participated in a fest like this before, and since I know no one in the fandom, it was weird to watch the comments trickle in--I kept wondering where they were coming from and who they were. Kind of like when I wrote Oroboros, the commenting on which was a surreal experience completely. In other words, I'm glad I did it, even if I've been stressing pretty much four months over it.
So, all five of you who read H/D, pls to be letting me know what you think, if you're so inclined as to read. I'll be reposting it on IJ in the next few days.
Next up is anelith's H/D, which I <3 so much I need to stop talking about it and just finish it!

To my surprise, when I told who the actors were, and gave a short description of the movie supplemented by a2zmom's report on this matter of great import, the Darogas both went, "YES WE NEED TO BE SEEING THAT."
This is why I <3 them.

| Subject: | Feeler for interest in B/A - B/S ficathon |
| Security: | Public |
| Mood: | crazy |
I have no business doing this as my participation in the past three ficathon type things I was in has been so harried and kinda craptastic, and I haven't even read the IWRY Marathon entries yet! But I figure it's alright as I'm just casing your interest...Actually sign ups won't take place until February or so (only if there is enough interest). Enough excuses! Here is my idea for the ficathon:
This ficathon wouldn't be for everyone. It would be for people who identify as primarily Buffy/Angel fans or Buffy/Spike fans. NB: I don't mean for people who only identify that way; for instance, I "identify" as a B/Aer, but I do love me my Angel/Spike and Buffy/Faith and Buffy/Connor and Angel/Wesley and so on, and I have read an enjoyed a number of Buffy/Spike fics. But if you ask me what my favorite 'ship is in the 'verse, I'd definitely say B/A. So ends the explanation of who this ficathon would be for, and the rest of you can stop reading.
The idea behind the ficathon is that all the people who identify as B/Aers would try to write a quality B/S fic, and all the people who identify as B/Sers would try to write a quality B/A fic. I was thinking that if there were around an even number of B/Aers and B/Sers, each B/Aer could get partnered to a B/Ser. These "partnerships" could mean various things, something as traditional as each partner makes requests and the other has to write to one of their requests*, or maybe the partners could kind of discuss their ideas and process as they write.

I will give someone something for making me an icon with VK as Pete Campbell on it that says: "Pete: the new Draco."
Because they're both so shameless in that they will do anything to get ahead, to the point of falling on their faces and looking completely ridiculous. And then they are ashamed, or maybe not ashamed so much as bitter towards the people who made them seem somehow objects of shame. AND THEN THEY GET UP AND GO SHAME THEMSELVES AGAIN, out of their bitterness, or whatever. They have no clue!
And I have no clue why they fascinate me so.
Gimme, now.
P.S. germaine_pet and anelith, I am still working on your requests, and sorry for the long delay.
For those of you who have sent fb on my IWRY fic: thanks so much! I am rewriting the fic, which is why I haven't posted it here. Hopefully the newer version will be better.
Meanwhile, I have read NO IWRY fics this month, but I do look forward to getting to them some time when I am less harried. I'm really excited about some of the stuff I'm seein'.
P.P.S. Happy first day of Hanukkah!

Now that I am moved in with my_daroga, we are flexing our genius and ambition. It's kind of like Sit And Be Fit with more pens and Star Trek. Evidence of this can be found in our joint comic venture. As I'm sure you have seen, my_daroga is drawing a comic for which I am writing the text. Meanwhile, I am drawing a different comic for which she is writing the text. Both comics start with the same premise: Sue-us dumped into Box Five in the Opera in Paris, France, some time during the Phantom of the Opera story. We both go in different directions from there. Here is hers: page one and page two. Below is mine, which I will be posting a page or two at a time.
